A Free Gift? Absolutely FREE? You Gotta Be Kidding Me!

John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

By Jack Weaver

TV Clothing store – Buy one get two absolutely free

An electric razor, buy one and get one absolutely free — just pay shipping and handling.

Free web computer scan for problems — absolutely free — just a small fee to find out what it is and fix the problem.

Christmas – good kids get absolutely free  gifts — “bad” kids get none.

There always seem to be strings or conditions attached to FREE! Don’t believe the advertisers. NONE of these are free. The words FREE and GIFT have been perverted in so many ways that when we speak of salvation and eternal life as God’s free gift, folks automatically throw up a guard and think there must be conditions attached.

THE GIFT:

It did not begin with the Creation of the world. John 1:1-3

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

It did not end with the Birth of Jesus Matthew 1:22-23

“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

It did not end with the Life of Jesus (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)

It did not end with the persecution of Jesus John 19:16:17

“Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:”

It did not end with the crucifixion of Jesus. John 19:18

…  they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

It did not end with the burial of Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:4a

“And that he was buried, …. according to the scriptures:”

It did not end with the resurrection of Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:4b

“…and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”

It does not end!!

God’s GIFT of Eternal Life is still FREE to you — no strings attached, never ending.

Jesus Christ, the Creator of the universe, the Savior is Himself Eternal. His Gospel of FREE Eternal life is just as ETERNAL. Eternal means NEVER ENDING!!

  1. Amen

  2. Holly, what a beautiful illustration, and a scriptural selection that proves that Calvinism is an unbiblical, man-made religion.

  3. He was a ransom for ALL.

  4. Phil, great point – accept by faith.

John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  5. Christ has offered us the gift of ransoming and rescuing us from the prison of the doom of sin and the condemnation of the Law. He bought us from the slavery of sin to take us to his Father’s eternal house. We just simply have to accept His rescue in faith. He died and rose to save us– any of us!

  6. “allowed” = dokimazo is usually testing for something positive, like testing out something for approval. It’s not that He’s looking for us to fail.
“put in trust” is amazing, almost like God (excuse how it sounds) “trusts” us (or, better, His Son in us), or that He believes in /or is believing that we will carry the grace message!

Yesterday after our evangelistic event, we said that any promise or attempt to pay God back for the gift is totally repudiated by the Giver.
There really is no strings, no COMMA, no BRACKETS, but one giant “Jn19:30” PERIOD!

I asked one guy the 3rd world, “what would people think if we started handing out free gifts, totally free, like money, gifts etc to complete strangers for nothing at all”.. His response…. People would be “suspicious”, But why?, I asked.. Well, he said, They would immediately assume that those things came with a curse (superstitious spells), because “totally free” (dureon, “for no reason in the object”) is totally unheard of!!!!

  7. Michael,

Thanks for your comment, friendship and faithfulness to the Truth of Scripture.

And we Believers are blessed to be “allowed” to be put in trust with the ONLY way of Salvation, the Gospel; by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ ALONE!!!

I pray you and all of our friends here at ExP will have a blessed day today and forever as we celebrate the Birth of our Savior who was born to die for us that we may, by our choice, believe in Him and have eternal life.

    In Jesus Christ eternally, Jack

Super, Jack! The “allowed” in the verse up above…Dr. Stanford told us that it’s “dokumadsu” (unsure of spelling, please forgive) which means to “test.” We are being entrusted and “tested” to give His Message out. I want to thank you for being true to His Plan–never altering–never waivering…I know you don’t do any of this for rewards, but your rewards will be great. See this link of Dr. Stanford…see around the 1-minute-10-second mark in the video and you’ll hear him say “dokumadsu”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs4UkcQdBY8
I pray for your strength and for your health. Have a super 12/25/13, today, okay! Michael Patrick Bowen.

  9. Thanks John,

I am in awe every time I think of the Love of God that has provided eternal salvation as a GIFT! And to think — there are people who deliberately reject that gift and depend upon their own righteousness.. So sad!!

So we continue to reach a few for Christ:

“But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.” 1 Thessalonians 2:4

What a Savior!!! What a privilege! What an awesome responsibility!!

    In Jesus Christ eternally, Jack

  10. Great post! So awesome to think that there are no strings attached when it comes to the love God has for us.

  11. Jack, what a wonderful, unspeakable gift God has given us – eternal life through Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 9:15: Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

God’s gift is a gift – no strings attached.
