The Savior Whom I Cursed For Years!!

By Jack Weaver

Can the God of the universe rescue a man who, for years, cursed and ridiculed His Son, Jesus Christ?

This is a special time of year for me — not necessarily the day of celebrating Christmas but the season of remembering the Birth of the Christ, the God Man, the only Savior, God in the Flesh whom, for years, Jack Weaver the atheist, proudly and openly cursed and blasphemed.

I thank God when at Christmas in 1964 someone cared enough to share with me the Gospel of God’s Grace and Salvation in Jesus Christ alone. It was Good News to me — which I had never heard. That night I understood the Gospel and without hesitation I trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior and passed from the deserved sentence of eternal death to the blessings of eternal life.

Looking back I realize that even while I was verbally abusing Him, He loved me and had me in His mind. I was part of that “world” for whom He gave Himself to be crucified on the cross of Mount Calvary. Then Jesus was buried and rose from the grave for me, thereby inviting me to choose to believe in Him alone as my Savior — securing my eternity with Him in Heaven. (John 3:16)

“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

And I look back and remember cursing God and Jesus Christ, He is the one who now, by His Word and my decision, has rescued me from an eternity in Hell. I am grateful beyond any words I can muster. No one deserves such Love, especially me — but His undeserved yet free Gift of Love is still available to you and anyone.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation [substitute atonement] for our sins. 1 John 4:10

Dear friend, as you read this you may not be sure of your eternal destination. Please simply put your trust in Jesus Christ, God in the Flesh, believing His sacrifice for your sins at Calvary and His resurrection from the grave is all sufficient to satisfy God’s demands upon you. If you do so Scripture says you have everlasting Life. (John 3:16). God’s Gift, your decision.

We pray you will have a blessed Christmas time all the time — and thanks so much for your friendship and the opportunity you give us to fellowship with you..

  1. Welcome John #2 (we have a previous “John” who comments here.. therefore the number)

Thanks for that verse.. Great verse.

When Paul decided to no longer kick against the the promptings of the Savior and believe in Jesus, he was enabled to serve his Savior — just as we today. He chose to believe and he chose to serve.. That is the wonderful life of Free Grace salvation/service in Jesus Christ.

Thanks for dropping in — look forward to your comments on the web site.

    In Jesus Christ eternally, Jack

  2. The title of this article is “The Savior Whom I Cursed For Years”.
    This reminds me of:
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus” ( 1 Timothy 1:12-14 KJV).

    We have a wonderful Lord.

    God bless,

    Child of God

Thanks.. We appreciate your voice, presence and wisdom. Without friends like you (and others we are privileged to meet here), this web site would simply be speaking to the wind.

We should pray daily for more folks to drop by and visit.. so they too can learn:
And ye shall know the TRUTH, and the truth shall make you FREE; John 8:32

That special Freedom is something totally foreign to everyone without Christ as Savior.

Hitchens did not and will not know that Freedom unless he trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior in the last moments before he passed into eternity.
Isn’t it ironic that he is CHRISTopher Hitchens — named for the very Savior he shunned, defamed and apparently rejected ’til death, in favor of Nietzsche. That is such a tragedy — just like so many “Christophers” in and out of churches today., LOST.

Y’all have a blessed day in fellowship with our Savior and your family. All of you, our friends on ExP, ARE family to us.

    In Jesus Christ eternally, Jack

  4. Well said Jack and a Merry Christmas to all of you guys!

I came to Christ at the age of 9 and Jesus Christ has held on to me ever since- through my own complacency in my teen years; through my depression and realization that I neglected my Lord and Savior; through my hard knocks of having to grow up spiritually (still not done until Christ returns) and realizing it is NOT ME who does the sanctifying but Christ Himself; through doubts about the theology I believed in, which resulted in fears of my salvation (apostasy, Calvinism, etc.); to now resting in the fact of knowing my salvation is completely secure in arms of Jesus Christ.

I read the last article Christopher Hitchens wrote before he died Bruce and it was very sad. He actually kept quoting Nieztche (spell?) throughout his writing. So one is on his deathbed and at the end of his physical life here on earth and going to eternity to his spiritual death and gives homage to Nieztche. He had many opportunities to see his sinful state and come to Jesus Christ, but chose to reject Him. His writing was nothing but rambling words that meant nothing- very sad.
Thanks Jack for your site- it has really been a comfort for me to know that there are those still here that hold on to the freedom in Jesus Christ!

  5. Hi Jack,

Thank you for your powerful testimony of how God can save even an avowed atheist of his sins. Recently I heard of the death of a famous [infamous?] atheist, Christopher Hitchens. From all public accounts and public statements, Hitchens steadfastly rejected Christ and Christianity right to the point of death. He suffered from cancer for a couple of years before disease took his life, a terrible thing for anyone to go through, but it did allow him some time and opportunity to reflect on his life, his mortality and his need for a Savior. How sad that he refused to trust Christ for salvation. There is no hope for one who steadfastly rejects the person, grace and work of Christ to his dying breath. I recall when Jerry Falwell died in May of 2007, Christopher Hitchens quickly and slanderously denounced Falwell publicly in some of the harshest meanest terms, within one day of Falwell’s death. I remember thinking to myself at the time, “Couldn’t Hitchens even wait until Falwell’s family could grieve and lay him to rest before cruelly and vociferously attacking his character?” After that incident, I refused to ever again listen to or watch Hitchens being interviewed on television, even though he was thought by some to be a brilliant analyst of world affairs.

Thanks again Jack for your testimony. Merry Christmas to you, to Shirley and to all of our friends on your site.

  6. How beautiful, the truth of God’s amazing love! Thank you for sharing that bro. Jack. I too remember just over 33 years ago, while under tremendous conviction that I was a sinner before God, my precious Dad shared Christ so simply with me, & the Spirit of God drove the message home to my heart & I simply trusted Him, though my faith was trembling & weak, yet it was in Him. Thank the Lord it is the Object & not the perfection or intensity of our faith, but HIS faithfulness to us! Merry CHRISTmas bro. Jack. You are a blessing to me.

  7. Thanks John,

We have the Message of Eternal Life in Jesus.. I pray I will be faithful to share Him — He is such a Precious Gift about whom so few people know.

We pray for you and your family, also that we will all have a blessed Christmas and a new enthusiasm for sharing the Gospel of our Savior.

    In Jesus Christ eternally, Jack

  8. Jack, what a wonderful story of God’s love! I especially liked the part that said:

“…someone cared enough to share with me the Gospel of God’s Grace and Salvation in Jesus Christ alone. It was Good News to me — which I had never heard.”

Let’s each strive to be someone who cares enough to share the Gospel of God’s Grace with those who desperately need to hear it!

Just think, millions of people sit in churches every week, but have never heard the clear Gospel.

    Merry Christmas Jack and everyone!
