Looking Back

Today I looked over some old “message notes” from the 1970s and 1980s. Some would call them sermon notes but I’m not sure I ever “preached a sermon.” My Pastoral goal was to tell forth God’s Word accurately and interestingly. Thus saith the Lord!

It amazes me how current these messages are, as if written for today. However, God’s Word, in context, is always current.

In the next few days I will begin transferring my old notes onto my computer and from there to my Blog. The original notes were either hand written or typed on an old IBM Ball Selectric typewriter.. much the same as I do now with my computer… two finger typing.

Now, with more than half my vision gone, I look at those old papers and wonder how I ever deciphered them on a lectern or pulpit.

Coming to a Blog near you… Notes from twenty to thirty years ago.

  1. Thanks, David,

It is a problem to decide which to keep, which to post and which to dump.

Another problem is to make the posts short enough not to bore and yet complete in Biblical content.

    Thanks for your encouragement..

  2. Thanks bro. Jack! I look forward with anticipation!

I remember the day that I went through some of my old notes while moving from my 1st pastorate to my next. I can still hear the “thud” as many if not all (I can’t remember now!) of those notes hit the bottom of the trash can!

I wish I could have sat under your preaching. This blog helps that happen, kinda, sorta! God Bless you & yo’ sweet wife!

  3. Things from 30yrs ago can be just as relevant now.

    Every blessing
