Recently I have been somewhat taken to task about being too political. Should a retired Pastor or, for that matter, Christians in general be political?
The question then is, What is political? The American Heritage dictionary says, “The art or science of government or governing, especially the governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs.”
Several Blogs and comments on my Blog have basically posited that Christians should not involve themselves in the politics of our country. There is much discussion about this and I have an opinion. I am a “recovering” politician, a retired Pastor and try to be a faithful witness for my Savior Jesus Christ, so I can speak from several viewpoints.
Government doesn’t happen in a vacuum. The Lord puts up and puts down rulers.. and the citizens get the government they deserve. (Daniel 4:17). Christian citizens are part and parcel of our wonderful American Republic and when we refuse to make our opinion known (writing, speaking or voting) we leave decisions up to those who would remove our freedoms from us.
The Lord uses the hands, minds, words and votes of believers. When we lead others to Christ but refuse to give them the knowledge and tools they need to share Christ AND in addition, how to live in this world in peace, we are derelict in our duty as Christian leaders.
As Christians we “vote” and are continuously “political.” We decide which doctrine is false or true, which church to attend, whom to elect as leaders in our church and which Bible to use. We express our opinion by our written word, our voice and vote.
True, Christians are not infallible.. but we should judge by God’s Word those who solicit our votes, tell friends our decisions and justify our choice (by personal conversation, Blogs and every other way we can find). Then we vote our convictions based upon what we see in God’s Word.
It is a fact that, in general, liberals are anti-Christian and Conservatives are not. Therefore we as Christians should never refuse to vote but we should advocate for those who will preserve our freedoms to worship as we please.
Proverbs 29:2
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”
Let Christians rejoice… but never forget — Our ultimate goal is NOT politics but the freedom to seek out the lost and share with them Jesus Christ and Him crucified. But in the event that freedom should be taken away, we still rejoice and share our Savior with the lost.
May God bless America — the land of the free — for now!

AMEN!
Yes, we are in the world, even if we aren’t part of it! And since we live in a democracy, it becomes part of our responsibility, to G*D and our fellow citizens to work for a righteous government. As much as possible! Politics, as you said Jack, is merely “how” we do government!
Well said!
Good afternoon to you and yours!
In christ,

Thanks Maria,
Your comments are always welcome…
Some Christians agree, some don’t but as we read Romans 13 1-7 we see our obligation to the government the Lord has established.
In Christ eternally, ExP (Jack)
So on goes the debate!
